Tank Farm Status

  • 13 tanks secure
  • A heel remains in the naphtha tank 80-8. Plans are being made for removal of the remaining heel.
  • Tank 80-11 still contains base oil
  • Tanks 80-7, 80-10, 80-13, 80-14 and 80-15 are being degassed, which removes vapors from the tank so cleaning can occur. Sludge removal in progress as well from tank 80-15.
  • Cleaning is complete for Tanks 80-2, 80-3, 80-5, 80-6, 80-9 and 80-12.
  • Product removal was completed from two of the base oil tanks, 80-1 and 80-4.

Houston Ship Channel

  • Upper Houston Ship Channel is open 24/7 for traffic managed by VTS Houston-Galveston. Today, responders have successfully completed the decontamination of 2 vessels within this area.
  • San Jacinto River is open for 24-hour vessel traffic as managed by VTS Houston-Galveston.

The Coast Guard issues a daily Marine Safety Information Bulletin (MSIB) to provide Houston Ship Channel (HSC) vessel traffic updates pertaining to the impacted segments of the waterway in response to the cleanup operations.   • Cleaning secured tanks 80-2 and 80-3 on 4/9/2019
  • 3 tanks with base oil (low risk) targeted for future removal
  • Tank Farm operations are suspended due to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office (HCFMO) being onsite; will resume later today after HCFM leaves
